My Story

Andrea Simões

My name is Andrea Simões, and I am a 24-year-old Portuguese designer! I’ve always been fascinated by design. Since I was a little girl, I remember paying attention to small details – architecture, lighting, colours, and furniture. I don’t know if you’re like me, but design makes me feel.

Fast-forward to when I was 18 and needed to choose a college degree. Unfortunately (or not), I focused too much on the financial and stability side of things and ultimately didn’t follow my heart.

I earned an Economics and Management BSc, and let me tell you, those were both the best and worst years of my life. I made life-changing friendships and enrolled in various organizations that always kept the design spark alive. However, curriculum-wise I was a complete failure. I hated every subject; consequently, my grades reflected my lack of passion.

In my final year, I couldn’t take it anymore, so I took action. I enrolled in an Interior Design Course at the Lisbon School of Design while still in college. With tremendous effort, I managed to plough through and pass my finals.

Despite this, the worse was yet to come: I needed to find a job. Now, I wouldn’t just have to skip Finance classes and stay in my room designing the perfect living room or spend hours choosing furniture I can’t afford. No. I would need to work 40 hours a week in a job I hated, looking through the window and imagining I was living a different life. Or so I thought.

However, destiny had other plans for me, and I am living proof that every cloud has a silver lining. When COVID hit, I didn’t have a job, but I had lots of time to think about my future and what I didn’t want for my life. I’d rather be a living failure than a numb success. With this in mind, I started searching online jobs for designers, but soon I discovered that most jobs I wanted required more formal education. So, I enrolled in a BSc in Design and started freelance writing and making original graphic design pieces to earn some money.

As my experience in the field of design grew, I started feeling more and more capable of creating my own space of creative free expression. A place where all design lovers could acquire valuable information and make smarter choices when decorating a space.

I created The Timeless Designer to share my passion for design, specifically home décor and to help people create beautiful spaces independently of budget.
